Located about 400 kilometers southwest of Cairo, the Black Desert lies on the edge of the Great Sand Sea that extends west in Libya. There is only one road into the desert from the Bahariya Oasis. On our guided trip into the Black & White Desert, we often went off-roading, but the desert road was essential to navigation. This picture was taken from the summit of one of the highest black-topped mountains in the area. The clouds cast large shadows and provided a welcome break from the heat of the day.
