Slairn Castle is now in pretty bad shape, but in the early nineteenth century it must have been pretty imposing - Bram Stoker took it as the inspiration for Dracula's Castle when he visited Cruden Bay. It lies right on the North Sea, but no one was there when we visited - telling of how many wonderful historical sites visitors to Scotland have at their disposal.
